Paris Fashion Week does not open until September 28. The first fashion trade floor of the Paris season opens three days earlier, in the exhibition halls at Paris Nord Villepinte, and most of the people who cover the runways never go.

SILMO Paris, the international optics and eyewear fair organised by Comexposium, runs from September 25 to 28, 2026. The organiser expects around 34,000 visitors from 150 countries, with 950 exhibitors and more than 1,500 brands on the floor, according to its pre-show figures as reported by Eyecare Business and OptikNow.

Why a fashion reader should care about an optical fair

Eyewear is one of the quietest and most dependable lines in a fashion house's accounts. Most houses do not make their own frames. They license the name, or run an eyewear arm, and the frames are designed, produced and distributed through the optical trade that meets at fairs like this one. When a house changes creative director, the eyewear often carries the old aesthetic for another season or two, because the product cycle runs on the optician's calendar, not the runway's.

That is why SILMO's program is worth reading closely. It tells you what the channel that actually sells fashion eyewear is preparing for.

Four days, one direction

The fair's conference program has a single theme for each day, and the sequence is hard to miss:

  • September 25: smart glasses.
  • September 26: predictive and preventive healthcare through ocular imaging and AI.
  • September 27: how the retail environment is changing.
  • September 28: training opticians in smart glasses and AI.

It opens on the product and closes on the people who will have to sell it. A dedicated SILMO NEXT area with a Tech Village is built around smart glasses, AI and live demonstrations, and more than 60 sessions are spread across four stages.

OptikNow's preview names Ray-Ban Meta among the reference points. That product is the clearest evidence that a connected frame can be sold as a fashion object rather than a gadget, because it carries a fashion brand's shape on the face and hides the hardware in the temples. The question for the houses that license their names into eyewear is whether they want to be in that category, and on whose technology.

What else is on the floor

The more familiar parts of SILMO are still there. The Trends Forum sets out shapes, materials and colours for the coming collections. The SILMO d'Or awards cover eyewear design, innovation and new applications. A 160 square metre CSR area holds a materials library, startups and workshops on responsible production. Among the fashion names in the pre-show coverage is Longchamp, with its LO800S frames.

What to watch

The number that matters is not the visitor count. It is how many of the fashion licences on the floor show a connected frame this year, and whether any house announces its own. If smart glasses stay on the tech stands, they are still a Meta and EssilorLuxottica story. If they start appearing on the licensed fashion stands, eyewear stops being the category that follows the runway, and the runway has a new accessory to answer to.

Fair dates, visitor, exhibitor and brand projections, daily themes and program areas as reported by Eyecare Business and OptikNow on August 25, 2026, which also named the Ray-Ban Meta and Longchamp references. Dates and venue confirmed by SILMO's visitor mailing of September 18. Figures are the organiser's projections, not audited attendance.
